Music Video Examples (a critique) P1 (a-f)

Beyoncé - If I were a boy

I like this music video because the lyrics and the music video bond so well together. The music video also make me feel sad because of the the plot and the character's emotions. This music video is about relationship problems in everyday life in a woman's point of view. They dress and act like normal people so it reflects the society. The whole music video is black and white, it gives you a depressed feeling. This music video is aimed at a majorly young females because it has a strong feminist perspective.

Editing:
The editing is so smooth because it is a narrative music video. It makes the audience fall into the scene.

Narrative:
This song is about relationship problems, and how a man should treat a woman in a relationship in a everyday life from a woman's point of view. The video reflects people in real life, may suffer relationship problems like the characters which the audience may relate to.

Camera angles:
The camera angles are mostly focused on the characters' emotions, to enhance to feeling to the whole music video.

Mis-en-scene

Costume:

In this video, it is black and white so it won't show any colour on their costume. Their costumes are based on daily casual and work wear.

Location:
Their house, streets, police station and club.

I don't like this music video because there are only people doing some simple dances and it has no meaning at all. The shots, background and lighting is good but it becomes boring when they did it for the whole music video. Also, I don't like the fact that they advertise Samsung phone too obviously. There is no story in this music video and the lyrics do not bond well together.
